time for an update
Whilst sitting on the floor last night attempting to see what I could add to my blog (as it has been quite sometime since my last update!). My cat - Buster - who I'd long forgotten was on the chair behind me, quietly does a little reshuffle & curls up a little closer to me, gently stretching his paw out to rest on my shoulder. Not so relevant to my crafty capers, but it was a very sweet moment...
my favourite ring
I had this idea to make a ring with an open design. It was a loose idea that progressed into the following final object.
Below are the key concepts/factors which helped me determine the final piece:
Below are the key concepts/factors which helped me determine the final piece:
- It had to be an organic looking design/shape.
- As silly as it sounds, I was sick of gunk building up under the face of other rings. I wanted something that would let my skin breathe underneath. Hence the open face design.
- I really liked the idea of using skin as a design feature, in much the same way that a gemstone is used.
- ...plus a little luck (as always).
work in progress...
Sometimes I enjoy filing & find it to be most relaxing. At other times, I wonder why I didn't file back the design when it was in its original, relatively soft clay form. But no, I realise in hindsight that the design is marginally too think & am required to spend a fair amount of time filing it back in its newly formed silver state.

these are a few of my favourite things...
Sometimes it's easy to be uninspired. To find oneself in a lull of sorts. Thankfully these moments tend to come & go...
One of my favourite things is to look through knitting patterns. Coveting good design. Soaked in a multitude of colour, pattern, shape & form. Imagining myself transposed in various knitted objects. I especially love looking through old vintage patterns. Enjoying how style has changed over time & how good design is timeless (but also subjective to my own eye). The photography in vintage patterns is often delightful, most possibly unintentionally, but none-the-less so appealing to my personal sensibilities. Of course there is never enough time in the world to make all the things that one loves, but occasionally one is inspired to pick up some needles & carefully select an appropriate yarn to commence a project. Whether the item gets finished or otherwise, is often determined by time, patience & persistence to see a project to a gratifying completion...
If you look through the collection of my favourite websites, which is currently small, you may also be inspired... just possibly...

it's all in the name...
One of my hobbies is knitting. So in my search for an interesting blog name, I worked through a number of different options which could potentially encompass what knitting meant to me. I finally arrived at the name tangible tangle. The combination of these two words somehow resonated together and spoke to me.
Knitting could be thought of as a series of twists and manipulations of yarn. Deliberate tangles, which at times come together perfectly, and at other times resembles somewhat of a mess. Below are some meanings for each word that may slightly illuminate what I'm trying to illustrate...
tangible -- to be touched or perceived through the sense of touch -- capable of being understood and evaluated, and therefore regarded as real -- capable of being given a physical existence...

tangle -- to make something become twisted together into a jumbled mass -- to catch and entwine something in something -- a mass of fibers, lines, or other things twisted together...
There is also a slight duality between the words. A tension of sorts between their meanings and their potential ...tangible implies a reality, a goal, something within your vision/sight that you can touch or attain, whereas tangle hints at a lack of clarity and definition, and of something being entwined within itself or within another object/s.
For me, life resembles a bit of a tangible tangle... which is perfectly fine "D
